I wrote this section based on my experiences running a software platform team for a decade, and a LOT of reading and talking!
(I have no formal training nor certification in anything, these are just my personal perceptions, as made through many different ideas and models that I’ve read by many great thinkers.)
Forms of demand
Value Demand
All the demand that eventually produces Throughput.
Examples
- A learning experience ready for implementation.
- A learning implementation.
- An analysis of the results of a learning implementation.
- Knowledge artefacts.
- A new feature that meets a process or learning need.
- A new tool that meets a process need.
- Feedback on quality.
- Improvements to quality.
- The prioritisation process that causes any of the above to occur.
Failure Demand
Demand created by a failure to produce value for a previous demand.
All failure demand is waste.
Examples
- Repeatedly answering the same questions instead of writing a FAQ.
